Reflective Journal Final
1.At the beginning of the course, I just have a blurry understanding of digital multimodal composing. After having courses for many times, I gradually grasped the concept of digital multimodal composing. The key resides in “multimodal”. I reckon it as the explicit forms to show the contents we want to present. It includes not only five senses such as aural, visual senses but also the arts in shot, settings and lens. Then in the subsequent homework of writing, I paid more attention to my application of digital multimodal and relative questions about my composing. During the process of concrete creating a meaningful and creative digital story, more multimodal elements were employed. A diagram of how to composing a digital multimodal work formed in my mind. Finally, I got a deeper understanding of DMC.
2. My biggest challenge is employing online tools. But in my continual usage of them, I gradually grasped how to apply these technical tools to my composing. I knew only in relent less practices can I grasp them.
And having no knowledge of how to make a video with perfect record of voice and pronunciation is also a hard task for me. I feel ashamed at my unskilled pronunciation together with my amateur facility. Confidence failed to land on me due to these worries. But after some thoughts, I decided to accept my drawbacks and to believe that efforts will pay off.
3. Different modes of communication could bring different effects to audiences. They can engage our different senses. Different emotions could be stimulated when we are using various modes of communication. An integration of different modes has a possibility to emerge us into lifelike surroundings. The combination of different communication modes will also lead to different senses being mobilized and different feelings being triggered. For example, the combination of touch and hearing in writing can remind people of specific things, while the content displayed in ppt can give people direct and immediate feedback.
4. My creative process is gradually improved, from the beginning with not knowing where to start to the later grasp of the whole process. Sometimes I found myself discouraged by some difficulties and showed some drawbacks including grammatical and spelling mistakes, inexplicit structure and logic, inaccurate pronunciation and unsuitable words. These problems has been solved through the process of creating. I thought about giving up when things got tough, but I stuck with it. So although this is a creative process with loopholes and shortcomings, I think it is also valuable. And in the subsequent creation, I consciously avoid my shortcomings, such as grammar mistakes in writing, background music problems in videos and so on.
5. The most rewarding aspects of the course is to teach me how to compose a complete digital modal work. Compared with practicing spoken English, the ability to search resources or using applications to create, the patience and courage to complete a whole digital work is the most precious thing that I reaped or found on myself.
What has been improved are not only my writing but also my application of many digital tools and equipment. An extra learning made me gain an extra experience and skill, which is beneficial to self-improvement. In future years, I may benefit more from this learning and practice.
