A specific measure to cope with soil erosion is to increase vegetation cover in China.
How it works and its impact :
Firstly, vegetation is the first barrier to protect land from external interference. Take Loess Plateau as an example, a main reason for its soil erosion is the lack of vegetation that leads to a serious loss of surfaced soil and water. Compared with bare land, it is more effective to plant more trees and vegetation, which can plays a significant role in reducing scour strength of rains and erosion of a wide variety of chemical meterials from rains.
Secondly, vegetation plays a part in absorption and retention of water on the ground, which can improve water content of soil and reduce loss of water. Besides, vegetation can absorb dioxide carbon from the air and release oxygen by its breathing of the stomata with the purpose of purifing air. Therefore, this process can decrease the probability of acid rain formation and soil erosion.
All in all, vegetaion makes a difference in isolation and quality of air, furthering risk mitigation of soil erosion.
