Feed back on narrative writing
After preliminary writing and design, as well as trying to create the first version of the video, I have identified specific shortcomings in both the process and results, as following below:
- Time too long. According to the preliminary video production, the total time is 4 minutes and 40 seconds, and adding excessive and embellished content may take more than 5 minutes.
Solution: Simplify some contents. There are many customs about Loong Boat Festival. You can choose representative ones and write them in one or two sentences. Don't have subtitles and expand them in detail - The PPT presentation is too rigid, try adding relevant videos
- Add some transitions in each section
- Consider reducing the description of the origin of Loong Boat Festival
- During the production process, certain grammar errors and improper tenses should be corrected in a timely manner.
The above is my feedback on the draft, which will be revised in the second version.
The second writing
There is a saying that the Dragon Boat Festival is to commemorate Qu Yuan, a poet in the Warring States Period. Qu Yuan jumped into the Miluo River on the May 5th in the lunar calendar and ended his life. After hearing this news, local people rowed boats along the river to save Qu Yuan, but they couldn't find them. From then on, they went boating by the river every year to express their longing for Qu Yuan.
As a kind of culture, Dragon Boat existed long before the Spring and Autumn Period. Before the competition, the people should first worship the gods and invite dragons to descend to earth. The colourful silk thread is woven into a bracelet with five auspicious colours of "blue, red, white, black, and yellow" and tied to the forearm to bless physical health.
Place mugwort, calamus, pomegranate, and garlic at your doorstep. If it is calamus, people tie it into a bundle with red paper and hang it on the door, symbolizing the sword that drives away misfortune. And mugwort represents a hundred blessings, it is a medicinal herb that can treat diseases. Inserting it at the door can make the body healthy.Realgar wine Baijiu or yellow rice wine made from realgar milled into powder can be used as antidote and insecticide. The main ingredients of rice dumplings are glutinous rice and filling, wrapped in bamboo leaves and in various shapes.
My Story with Five-colour silk thread
When I was in primary school, I learned about the custom of wearing five-colour silk threads on the Dragon Boat Festival. They were cut off in the first rain after the Dragon Boat Festival. With the rain falling down, diseases and misfortunes will be washed away. So I went to find the book about bracelets and woven five-colour silk threads for my family.
At the age of 12, my grandfather suffered from cancer, so every Dragon Boat Festival, I would personally put on five-colour silk threads for him. This habit continued until my maternal grandfather passed away two years ago.
How to make five-colour silk threads demands careful attention to detail. I often use diamond knots to make the main body, symbolizing protection and safety.
Nowadays, my emotions towards the five-colour silk threads are still special. This year, I made it with glass beads, leaving the beautiful wishes in my hands, allowing the rain to wash away illness and blessing peace.
Thoughts
Dragon Boat Festival, as a traditional festival in China, has been greatly impacted in modern society, but at the same time, it has been endowed with new significance.
Many young people will not make Zongzi. They seldom make Zongzi themselves, but go to the supermarket to buy some finished products.
This phenomenon should be taken seriously and we should actively learn traditional handicrafts.
We should make good use of this opportunity to commemorate Qu Yuan and inherit the patriotic spirit.
