Desertification is a natural (non natural) phenomenon caused by factors such as drought, lack of rainfall, vegetation destruction, overgrazing, strong wind erosion, water erosion, and soil salinization, resulting in a decrease or loss of productivity in large areas of soil. There are narrow and broad definitions, which originated in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The Sahara region in western Africa experienced consecutive severe droughts, causing unprecedented disasters, and the term "desertification" began to spread. The ultimate result of desertification is mostly desertification. The governance of desertification requires extensive international cooperation and the joint participation of countries around the world.
