1.独立主格结构的构成和特征
独立主格结构是一个名词或代词(作为逻辑主语)，加上一个不定式、分词、介词短语、形容词、副词等，在句中作状语。它有以下三个特点：
(1)独立主格结构的逻辑主语与句子的主语不是同一个，它独立存在。
(2)独立主格结构的位置比较灵活，一般位于句首，也可位于句尾。
(3)独立主格结构一般用逗号与句子隔开，与句子之间不使用任何连词。
2.独立主格结构的常见形式
(1)名词/代词+不定式。
so mach wonk to do, I will have to work overtime this Sunday.
有这么多的工作要做，这个星期天我将不得不加班。
So many letters to answer the singer has to ask her assistant to help her.
有这么多信件要回，这位歌手不得不请她的助理帮助她。
(2)名词/代词+现在分词。
The rain having stopped, he went out for a walk.
雨停了，他出去散步了。
The our guide leading the way,we had no trouble getting out of the forest.
有导游领路，我们毫不费劲地走出了森林。
3)名词/代词+过去分词。
The machine fixed, the worker round he could do his work smoothly.
机器修好了，这个工人发现他可以顺利地做他的工作了。
The students are listening attentively in class, their eyes fixed on the blackboard.
学生们正在课堂上专心地听讲，他们的眼睛都盯着黑板。
(4)名词/代词+介问短语。
The teacher entered the classroom, book in hand.
老师走进了教室，手里拿着一本书。
(5)名词/代词+形容词/副词。
I saw a clear pond, the water blue like the sky.
我看到了一个清澈的池塘，水像天空一样蓝。
The summer vacation over, the students returned to the school.
暑假结束了，学生们回到了学校。
(6) There being+名词/代词。
There being no train,we had to wait till the next day.
由于没有火车，我们不得不等到第二天。
There being nothing more for discussion,I declare the meeting closed.
没有更多需要讨论的事宜了，我宣布散会。
3.独立主格结构的句法功能
独立主格结构主要表示谓语动词所表示动作发生的时间、原因、条件、伴随状态等，相当于一个状语从句或并列句。
(1)作时间状语。
The question settled (=After the question had been settled), we went back to the office.
问题解决之后，我们回到了办公室。
(2)作原因状语。
An important lecture to be given tomorrow (=As an important lecture will be given tomorrow), the professor has to stay up late to prepare for it.
因为明天要发表一个重要的演讲，这位教授不得不熬夜为其作准备。
(3)作条件状语。
Weather permitting (=lf the weather permits),they will go on an outing to the beach tomorrow.
如果天气允许的话，他们明天将去海滩游玩。
(4)作伴随状语。
The room is very pretty, is window overlooking a park(=and its window overlooks a park).
这个房间很漂亮，它的窗户俯瞰着一个公园。
独立主格结构记忆口诀：独立结构要认清，
名、代之后副或形，不定、分词或介短，with结构不可轻，
名代二词是其主，
句子结构必分明。
有时可在独立主格结构前加上介词with，这种结构也被称作with复合结构，其用法与独立主格结构的用法一致。如：
With so many tasks to complete, I can not spare a minute.
有这么多任务要完成，我一分钟也抽不出来。
With night falling, they stopped playing outside and went home.
夜幕降临了，他们不再在外面玩耍，回家去了。
With her glasses broken, she was unable to see the people ten meters away clearly.
她的眼镜碎了，她无法看清离她十米远的人。
I saw her go out, with a mobile phone in her hand.
我看见她出去了，手里拿着一部手机。
